The Northern Echo has reported that Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat is looking to finalise his plans for the summer by the end of this week.
The paper states that Advocaat has been holding a number of discussions with Sunderland’s sporting director Lee Congerton, over everything to do with the club ahead of pre-season and the return of the competitive action.
Among reported priorities for Advocaat are a new long term deal for midfielder Lee Cattermole as well as an apparent request for ‘five or six’ top quality additions to come into the squad, giving the boss fresh squad options.
It’s very important that Sunderland are in a strong position by the start of the next campaign, to give themselves a good chance of getting off to a decent start.
Advocaat will want the Black Cats to make life a bit easier for themselves moving forward and early preparations for the next campaign are a good way for him to go about that.
There’s no rush as the club look to bring in some new players but starting early is a positive sign.
