Former Tottenham Hotspur manager David Pleat told BackPass Magazine that he feels there can be little doubt over the transition Mauricio Pochettino has made at White Hart Lane.
Pleat sees plenty of similarities between the current Tottenham side under Pochettino and the side he assembled when he was in charge at Southampton.
“Make no mistake the current Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has bought into the philosophy, as he did at Southampton,” he said.
Tottenham are an attractive side to watch under Pochettino for a number of reasons, but they also have some weaknesses which the gaffer has to work on ahead of pre-season.
Pochettino deserves credit for raising the general fitness levels of the team to a point where they have been able to perform his high press tactics effectively.
Spurs also control the ball well in central areas and have built a positive team based around some key younger players, who have emerged from the club’s youth system.
In terms of what needs to change for next season, the defence needs to be better and it will be interesting to see if new signing Kevin Wimmer can install himself as part of the club’s first choice back four.
If the defence improves, it takes the pressure away from the team in other areas and gives the strengths of the side even more freedom and room to flourish.
