Lukaku has been the Toffees' top scorer for the past two seasons, and has recently expressed his desire to play in the Champions League, but Saha feels the 22-year-old has a way to go before he realises his dream, whether that is at Goodison Park or elsewhere.
The Frenchman did speak highly of Lukaku, saying: “Maybe he just needs to work a little bit harder in terms of aggression and the type of qualities a number nine needs to be on top. But definitely he’s one of the best strikers in the league.
“You have a few strikers who can completely destroy a team on their own, and he’s one of them. There is no doubt about it.”
The pace and power of Lukaku makes him feared by most defences in the league, but critics of the Belgian will probably require more work rate, and want him to tidy up his end product - though he has made a big impression on Merseyside for the past two seasons.
Saha, however, wants Lukaku to produce week in, week out and target 30 goals a season - rather than the 36 goals over the past two seasons.
Lukaku, to his credit, impressed in Europe to go along with his 10 Premier League goals to bring him to 20 for the season in all competitions, but he has age on his side when it comes to being a striker who can get in and around that 30 figure. A more aggressive and potent Lukaku could really strike fear into opponents.
When it comes to the question of playing Champions League football, it's clear Saha feels he needs to score the same amount of goals that would allow him to fit into a side playing at the top level. If he can score on the regular basis Saha suggests, it could well mean Everton pushing for a place in the top four in the next year or two.
