The 22-year-old Villa midfielder, on loan at Forest last season, was delighted!
Indeed, the Villa midfielder spent some of last season on loan at Championship side Forest and loved every minute of his time there.
Now that he has moved back to the Premier League, the 22-year-old will still be able to play at the City Ground, with Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest announcing a friendly against each other. They may as well name it the Gary Gardner clash.
The young Villa star took to Twitter to express his delight once the news was confirmed:
It should be an exciting season at Villa Park for Gardner, of course, with the midfielder looking to break into Tim Sherwood's first team.
With a full pre-season at Aston Villa under his belt, Gardner may well do enough to convince Sherwood he is the right man for his midfield.
The departure of Tom Cleverley, previously on loan at Villa, to Everton will also help free space up for Gardner.
If the 22-year-old needs to leave on loan once again at any point, however, Nottingham Forest will surely welcome him back with open arms.
