Real Betis are currently planning the additions they'll need during the 2015-16 season, following their return to the Spanish top-flight, and now appear to have landed an absolute gem, in what will arguably be their biggest signing of the summer.
Following enthusiastic comments from Betis manager, Pepe Mel, that Rafael van der Vaart would be "an interesting player for us" if he joined, the club have now been given the firmest thumbs-up, that a deal will now become a reality.
Amidst speculation that Italian clubs had joined the chase for the Dutchman, his agent Celeste Rusin explained, via Estadio Deportivo, that in his view: "It's not the right time to see Van der Vaart playing in Serie A."
Rusin also added: "One Serie A club asked we give them an opportunity, but we didn't look upon the move favourably."
As such and with words from Rusin that will be music to the ears of Betis fans, Rusin confirmed what they've been looking forward to hearing so much: "Van der Vaart will sign for Betis."
Given the high salary the 32-year-old has commanded at previous clubs, out of contract with German outfit Hamburg, it seems he's willing to take a considerable pay-cut in order to make his return to La Liga, fitting into the financial limitations of the Andaluz club.
A move to the city of Sevilla is also viewed positively by the player, as it places him closer to family in the neighbouring province of Cadiz.
Just as important for Van der Vaart, is a desire to make a good impression in La Liga, so he can ensure he's part of the Netherlands plans for EURO 2016 in France.
