Tottenham Hotspur legend Clive Allen told talkSPORT that he’d love to see Harry Kane maintain his form over the course of the next season.
Allen also suggested what he feels would be a good return for the forward in terms of goals, as he deals with the challenges which are going to be coming and the pressure that he’ll be under.
“I’d love to see him keep it going. I think he’s shown great character. Every hurdle he’s had to overcome, he has done. He’s an old head on young shoulders – It will be difficult and if he scores 20 goals next season, that will be a fantastic return because of the pressure he’s going to be under,” he said.
Tottenham’s season last year seemed to be predominantly based around Kane’s form; when he played well, the team played well and often secured the right results.
It’s going to be more difficult for him when the next campaign gets underway because he’s lost the surprise factor and any team he comes up against will pay extra close attention towards keeping him quiet.
If he can reinvent his game slightly and develop one or two new and different skills, he stands a very good chance of being able to gets the better of defenders all over again next season.
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino needs to work hard to try and find the right sort of attacking player in the transfer market who can come in and take some of the pressure away from Kane.
It became very obvious last season that had something happened to Kane, there wasn’t much in the Tottenham cupboard to come in after him and that’s an area the boss has to address.
