Wojciech Szczesny praises Arsenal teammate Francis Coquelin as 'something special'

One Arsenal player has been praising another in a recent interview.

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been speaking about his teammate Francis Coquelin in an interview with the club’s official website.

The French midfielder enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at the Emirates Stadium this season, returning from his loan spell at Charlton Athletic and never looking back, ultimately featuring 30 times for Arsene Wenger’s side and being one of the first names on the team-sheet week in, week out.

Coquelin was the unexpected solution for the problem of who to play in the defensive midfield role at Arsenal and he now looks like having a very bright future in North London.

Szczesny has seen the 24-year-old develop and he was effusive in his praise of a player expected to get even better next season.

Looking back on years gone by, the Arsenal ‘keeper said, “Every time out there on the training field he was always the best player, back in the under-18s or the reserves.

“He was something special. I was quite surprised by how late Francis made his breakthrough.”

It may have been late but Arsenal fans are not complaining. The question is: Will Wenger sign another quality defensive midfielder this summer or put his faith solely in Coquelin?

Most likely he will sign a new addition as he looks to challenge both domestically and in Europe, but Coquelin is unlikely to mind that challenge. After all, he has fought to prove his worth already, doing so in emphatic style.
