Study: Liverpool's Sterling world’s sixth most valuable star, tops Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez

Raheem Sterling

The official CIES Football Observatory have released their top ten most valuable players.

According to the official CIES Football Observatory, Liverpool’s contract rebel Raheem Sterling is the world’s sixth most valuable player with a value of €81 million, ahead of Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.

The England international winger has hit the headlines in recent months after failing to sign a new contract with the Reds and apparently wishing to leave the club in search of more silverware elsewhere.

As per the Mirror, Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City have all been eyeing the star with the latter having allegedly already placed a £30 million bid.

However, according to the official CIES Football Observatory, City’s bid falls well below Sterling’s true value, though it’s difficult to understand to see how he tops Alexis Sanchez, valued at €74.6 million.

Raheem Sterling 7 7 2.4 2.14 2.94 26.26 4.69 35

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, the Gunners’ Chilean international superstar evidently had the better individual campaign, dominating Sterling in every aspect of the game.

Sanchez netted 16 goals and provided a further eight assists during his debut campaign in the Premier League, while also averaging more shots, key passes and take-ons than Sterling per encounter.

Moreover, the former Barcelona man was better in possession in terms of accurate passing, despite that being a possible weakness of his game, and proved more hard working and determined off the ball.

At 26 years of age, Sanchez has his best years of his career ahead of him and his impact at the Emirates has already wielded silverware in terms of the FA Cup plus Champions League qualification.

While Sterling is six years younger than the North London favourite, his potential is difficult to predict and there are no guarantees he will ever reach the standards currently set by the world’s top players.

The official figures of the top ten players has been relaid by popular Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, with Lionel Messi topping the charts with an estimated value of €280.8 million.
