Spurs are looking to do their transfer business early, but have been knocked back in a big for the youngster.
Spurs are reported to have offered €12 million for the 19-year-old striker, around £10 million, as they look to make their moves early in the summer transfer window. However, his club quickly rejected the offer.
Mauricio Pochettino is likely to be chasing another striker this summer having relied so heavily upon breakthrough star Harry Kane last season, with the likes of Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor failing to properly challenge the youngster for his place.
Werner would also fit into the current Tottenham model of buying young stars to be developed, having already made 62 Bundesliga games for his side at just 19 years old.
However, last season wasn’t a good one for the youngster as he scored just three times in 32 games, a disappointing return for someone so highly thought of.
It’s fair to say that Tottenham fans would probably prefer the money was spent on someone a little bit more prolific, although current forward Soldado was just that in Spain and has struggled in the Premier League meaning the club are likely to be reluctant to spend big money on a striker again.
