Report: West Brom deny interest in Real Madrid playmaker Cristian Benavente

West Brom

West Brom have denied reports that they are interested in signing the Real Madrid midfielder.

Marca reported last week that the Baggies had agreed a three-year contract with Benavente, having tabled a €5 million offer to Real Madrid for his services.

The 21-year-old Peruvian international is contracted to Madrid, and currently turns out for their Castilla reserve side. He made 25 appearances this term, scoring three goals, whilst he has also managed eight full caps for his nation.

He has been with Madrid since the age of 8, and is considered something of a technically gifted attacking midfielder, although his output in front of goal could improve. Able to play through the centre, or on both wings, he also needs to become more creative for his teammates, and start to provide consistently if he is to truly become a top class player.

Regardless, West Brom’s interest would excite Baggies fans, as he is still a player trained in the Real Madrid style of play, but the latest report in the Birmingham Mail has denied interest in him from the Midlands club.

It is stated that Tony Pulis’s men have denied any reports stating that they have an interest in Benavente, and will not be making a move for him.

Whilst this could be a smokescreen as the Baggies work on the transfer deal behind the scenes, it is likely that Pulis is keen on strengthening his squad with proven Premier League players, rather than young talents who may not be able to cut it in the English top flight.
