According to spyghana, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal will approve a deal to sign talented midfielder Bernard Mensah if chief scout Jim Lawlor gives the green light.
The report states that the 20-year-old was being scouted by Lawlor when he scored ‘a classy finish’ to give Avram Grant’s Ghana a 1-0 win over Togo. It adds: “Van Gaal is ready to announce a deal to sign the talented youngster but has handed the job over to his scouts to have the final say.”
After the same match, former Chelsea boss Grant heaped praise onto the in-demand midfielder and dubbed him a ‘very good player’.
“I’m happy with Mensah’s performance especially with his goal and he is a very good player,” Grant said at the post match press conference, as quoted by spyghana.
“The match was a good experience for my team and we are satisfied with the outcome of match. Mensah is one of the players I have been monitoring over the last three months and I can promise you he won’t be the last one.”
Who is Bernard Mensah?
The 20-year-old plays for Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes in the country’s top division.
He made his international debut against Togo, the game United are said to have scouted him in, and as mentioned scored the winning goal in a tight 1-0 success.
He usually plays in a central attacking position, but can play on the wing, and has five goals and five assists to his name in 30 top-flight appearances.
He is a tenacious player, prone to discipline problems, as shown by his nine yellow cards and one red from his 30 matches.
Nevertheless, still young and developing, he could be a very shrewd buy for Van Gaal and Manchester United this summer.
