Report: Sunderland willing to sell Vito Mannone for the right price

Mannone played second fiddle to Costel Pantilimon for much of the 2014/15 season.

Sunderland have received several enquiries for goalkeeper Vito Mannone, according to the Sunderland Echo.

Mannone had to play second fiddle at the Stadium of Light for much of the 2014/15 season after falling behind Costel Pantilimon in the pecking order, while he was the number one choice during the previous campaign.

The 27-year-old is believed to want to play regular football instead of acting as cover, and the Black Cats are reportedly prepared to sell the Italian if the price is right. He currently has two years left on his contract, so it would be an ideal time for the club to cash in.

Mannone made a total of 14 appearances for Sunderland last season. He played 10 games in the Premier League as well as participating in all of their FA Cup ties, along with one fixture in the League Cup.

Compare that to the previous season, Mannone made a total of 36 appearances for the Black Cats as they avoided relegation from the top-flight, and played a vital role in their run to the League Cup final, as well as picking up the club's Player of the Year prize. That will be the sort of game time he will be looking for next term.

If he is to depart the club this summer, the Echo report indicates that Sunderland will not be looking to the transfer market for a replacement, and will instead place their faith in academy graduate Jordan Pickford.
