The Tyneside outfit are the second club to be linked with a move of the forward in the last few days, following a Scottish Sun report claiming that Ronny Deila wanted to bring the exciting youngster to Celtic.
Berisha, who has been capped at every youth level for Norway up to Under-21, has been enjoying a prolific season in front of goal for Viking, netting nine times in 13 games. It has been his best campaign as a striker, and has now taken his career tally up to 25 goals in 103 appearances.
Berisha is out of contract this summer, but due to his age any club wishing to enter contract talks with him will have to pay the development fee for a youth player, with him being just 21.
An exciting striker, the Magpies are targeting Berisha to have the same kind of impact as Ayoze Perez did at St James’ Park last season. A forward with potential, Perez arrived on Tyneside with little reputation, but was one of the highlights of a poor campaign.
The Norwegian youth international is an exciting talent, but with little backing that he can cut it in the Premier League. Still, a move looks to be on the cards this summer, and it appears as if Celtic and Newcastle are the two clubs most likely to secure the signature of a real talent.
