Liverpool are seemingly doing their utmost to get business done early this summer having already signed James Milner from Manchester City and Danny Ings from Burnley.
Brenden Rodgers now apparently wants to bring Inter Milan starlet and Croatia international Mateo Kovacic to Anfield. The Nerazzurri are believed to be prepared to cash in on the midfielder in order to raise funds of their own to spend this summer.
According to Sportmediaset, Liverpool have already had one bid knocked back for the talented midfielder and could plan a second offer this week.
The Merseyside club are allegedly leading the race to sign Kovacic and talkSPORT believes the club can push through the deal once Inter's valuation for the 21-year-old has been met.
Kovacic, who previously played for Dinamo Zagreb, scored eight goals in 44 appearances last season, and due to being linked with Liverpool is now tipped as a like-for-like replacement for the outgoing Steven Gerrard.
Every midfielder Liverpool approach or sign in the next five to 10 years will be labeled a like-for-like replacement of Gerrard, but it remains to be seen whether anyone can fill his giant boots.
