Report: Chelsea defender Filipe Luis turns down Real Madrid move

The Brazilian would not entertain a move to the Bernabeu given his history with Atletico Madrid, reports suggest.

Chelsea defender Filipe Luis has turned down a move to Real Madrid, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

It is thought that Madrid were keen to make a move for the Brazilian, who has been out of favour at Chelsea having failed to settle, and the La Liga side saw him as a perfect addition given his experience in the league.

Former boss Carlo Ancelotti was also said to be attracted by the defender’s ability to play anywhere on the left side, making him a useful player to have. However, it seems his loyalty to former club Atletico Madrid scuppered the deal.

According to the report in Marca, Luis refused to even enter negotiations about a potential move to the Bernabeu and never considered the move for a second. In fact, it seems the defender has his heart set on a return to Atletico Madrid.

The defender was a key part of Diego Simeone’s side before his move to Chelsea last summer, playing 180 games for the cub and winning five titles during his spell at the club.

There is a possibility that Jose Mourinho may look to exploit this and use the player as a makeweight in a potential deal for several Atletico stars, as he looks to improve his squad for next season.
