Ex-Spurs striker: I'm surprised West Ham didn't confirm Bilic two weeks ago

Former Tottenham and Scotland striker Alan Brazil is confused over the delay in West Ham potentially announcing Slaven Bilic as their next manager.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Scotland striker Alan Brazil explained on his breakfast show for talkSPORT that he expected Slaven Bilic to have already been confirmed in the top job at West Ham United.

The odds suggest that Bilic is the red hot favourite to be the manager who replaces Sam Allardyce at Upton Park, but the Scot has suggested that he’s confused as to why the announcement hasn’t already been made.

“It looks like it’s going to be Bilic – He’s been mentioned for a couple of weeks, I’d have thought that he’d already be confirmed if he was going to get the job,” he said.

West Ham have confirmed on the club’s website that a decision is imminent over the club’s next manager and if it is Bilic who comes in, the delay shouldn’t be seen as anything serious.

Modern day football is full of difficult and complicated deals, with terms and conditions which take a great deal of time to work through.

Bilic is likely to have asked for a number of assurances, which could relate to things like what he’s going to be paid and the level of control he has over transfers.

It all adds up and amounts to time being spent on the phone and in the office, to make sure an agreement goes through efficiently and legally.

If it is to be Bilic, he has the history and the character to deal with driving the team forward in the Premier League and the experience to drive the side forward in the Europa League and even if the club had to wait for another week to complete the deal, it would still be the right move.
