Done deal: Former Newcastle winger Hatem Ben Arfa joins Nice

St James Park

Former Newcastle United winger Hatem Ben Arfa has officially joined Ligue 1 outfit Nice.

Former Newcastle United winger Hatem Ben Arfa has joined Nice on a free transfer, the French club have announced.

Earlier this morning, the Ligue 1 outfit posted the following message on social networking site Twitter confirming their recruitment of Ben Arfa.

Ben Arfa was released by Newcastle in January following the winger’s struggles at St. James’ Park.

The 28-year-old moved to the Premier League outfit in the summer of 2011 amid hype and expectations.

Although there were some moments of magic, overall the Frenchman had a largely disappointing time at the Magpies.

Ben Arfa joined Hull City on loan from Newcastle in the summer of 2014, but even at the KC Stadium he failed to make an impression.

Although Ben Arfa had originally moved to Nice in the January transfer window, the deal was nullified as FIFA rules prevent a player from turning out for more than two clubs in a single season.
