Bent said: “I’d had a difficult few years at Aston Villa so it was perfect to come here, play games and score goals. I also struck up a good relationship with everyone at the club. Speaking to the fans and people in the street I got a good feeling and it was a place I wanted to come back to.”
The former England international striker, who spent the second half of last season on loan at the iPro, agreed a three-year deal with Paul Clement’s side. Having impressed so well during his short spell in the Midlands last season, he will be hoping to replicate his form this coming campaign.
The 31-year-old netted 12 times in 17 games, and finally looked to once again be enjoying his football, something that could not be said of him during his spell at Villa Park.
Despite his incredible run in front of goal, Bent could not stop Derby’s slide from automatic promotion hopefuls to missing out on the play-offs altogether, and he will be looking to fix that next term.
With Paul Clement in charge, and an in-form Bent leading the line, Derby have a great chance to win promotion, and the ageing forward could find himself back in the Premier League before too long.
