Former Liverpool captain Steve Gerrard has been unveiled as a Champions League pundit for BT Sport as the broadcaster kicks off their exclusive coverage of European football's premier club competition.
BT Sport will screen both the Champions League and Europa League next season after signing an unprecedented £897million three-year deal.
Rio Ferdinand, the former Manchester United and England defender, has also joined as lead analyst for the channel. And Liverpool captain Gerrard, who is set to move to LA Galaxy, was surprisingly unveiled as a pundit for the broadcaster.
Both have won the Champions League once in their careers and experienced what it is like to lose in the all important final, meaning insight should be intriguing from the pair.
Harry Redknapp tipped Ferdinand for the West Ham United job on Monday, as reported by the Guardian, but the former England captain will now find himself occupied covering Champions League football for BT Sport.
It was never a realistic recommendation for the London club, with Ferdinand having only recently retired from playing and dealing with difficult private issues following the passing of his wife. The 36-year-old can now enjoy watching the sport he loves for a living.
Gary Lineker and Jake Humphrey will also be unveiled as presenters of BT’s Champions League coverage.
