Tottenham Hotspur have missed out on the signing of Danny Ings - but do fans care?
Liverpool announced via their official website on Monday that the 22-year-old has decided to join them, after his contract with Burnley expired.
SkySports had reported a fortnight earlier that Tottenham had made a substantial effort to sign the striker, who scored 11 times for the relegated side last season.
Ings is not the finished product, so missing out on his signature is at this point easy to brush aside. It is early in the transfer window and Tottenham have the opportunity to move for alternatives.
The biggest positive about potentially signing the prospect was his previous link up with Harry Kane for England's under-21 side.
His decision to sign for Liverpool can quite easily be seen as a gamble. Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini have seen their careers stall at Anfield, and he is up against it given the exceedingly high expectations supporters have.
Among the alternatives being discussed by fans on Twitter are QPR striker Charlie Austin, and Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke.
Ings was the cheaper of the trio, and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will have to sanction a big offer to secure the services of either remaining player. Tottenham have also been strongly linked with Monaco's Anthony Martial by FranceFootball.
Here is a look at how supporters reacted to Ings' decision to sign with Liverpool ahead of Tottenham?
Charlie Austin was always my prefered option over Danny Ings tbh. Maybe with Ings joining Liverpool we will make a move for Austin? #COYS— JTHFC (@JacobMTH) June 8, 2015
Ings to Liverpool... dodged a bullet there but Levy hurry up and buy Charlie Austin !! #COYS— Paul Day (@paul7day) June 8, 2015
Ings to Liverpool can now allow Benteke to Tottenham. With any luck— Paul (@Paul_THFC79) June 8, 2015
Gutted we didn't manage to sign Danny Ings, think he would've been perfect a signing for Tottenham.— Ross. (@RossTweeting) June 8, 2015
What an idiot Ings is, why would you pick Liverpool over Spurs with Brenda in charge and the season they have just had?— Charlie Bowman (@ChadliAssist) June 8, 2015
