According to a report in The Sun, Liverpool have opened talks with Tottenham Hotspur over signing highly-rated midfielder Nabil Bentaleb for £10 million.
The 20-year-old has plenty of potential to become one of the league’s top midfielders and Brendan Rodgers is looking at strengthening that area as a result of Steven Gerrard’s departure.
James Milner has already signed as a possible central midfield partner for Jordan Henderson, therefore Bentaleb’s potential Anfield arrival would see him compete with Joe Allen for a regular spot.

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, comparing the duo on the season just gone it would appear the Spurs ace is the more dominant of the two, outshining Allen in as many as six key areas.
Bentaleb may have produced fewer tackles, but in other key duties such as interceptions, defensive duel winners and ball recoveries he posts a higher average per Premier League encounter.
Moreover, the Spurs academy product is more effective in possession – averaging more touches, accurate passes and importantly forward passes per league match.
Losing Bentaleb for such a relatively small fee would be a big blow to the North Londoners, especially considering the Reds are considered a direct rival.
There are plenty of players with massive potential at White Hart Lane, but in order to break into the top four and reclaim Champions League football they must keep hold of their better players.
