Report: Southampton want Arsenal-linked Hector Moreno

Former Tottenham Hotspur target Hector Moreno is reportedly being chased by Premier League rivals Arsenal and Southampton.

Southampton are interested in signing Hector Moreno from Espanyol in the summer transfer window, according to The Mirror.

It has been reported by the British newspaper that the Saints have identified the Mexico international defender as an alternative to Toby Alderweireld.

Alderweireld played for Southampton on loan from Atletico Madrid during the recently concluded 2014-15 season.

The future of the Belgium international defender Alderweireld is uncertain, as he has interest from Tottenham Hotspur, according to The Mirror.

Southampton are reportedly preparing for life without the former Ajax star and have identified Moreno as a suitable replacement.

The Mirror claim that the 27-year-old former AZ star will cost the Saints as much as £8 million in transfer fee.

This is not the first time that Moreno has been linked with a move to the Premier League.

Last month, Mexican newspaper Record claimed that Arsenal have submitted a €10m bid for the Espanyol defender, while The Daily Mail reported in December that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino wanted to sign the player he worked with at Espanyol in the January transfer window.
