Report suggests Newcastle will target up to six new players

Newcastle United are reportedly ready to spring into action in the transfer market.

The Chronicle has reported that Newcastle United are unlikely to go after a deal for Patrick Bamford, with Chelsea reportedly valuing the player at £10 million.

The talented youngster has been suggested by the paper as a target for the Magpies, as they look at ways to revitalise their squad ahead of next season.

There is a need for the next manager, most likely Steve McClaren, to give himself extra options up front and Bamford could relish the chance to play consistently in the Premier League.

However, whether the Magpies will take a risk with Mike Ashley getting out the chequebook remains to be seen.

The paper does suggest that the club have plans to sign up to six players over the summer, with an apparent intention for the club to ensure they are never in the same position they were towards the end of last season.

Bamford is an exciting player with the ability to be a top striker who is effective in the top flight but the Magpies have to make sure they show some ambition in terms of getting him.
