Report: Crystal Palace interested in summer move for Marseille defender Rod Fanni

Marseille Velodrome

Crystal Palace are keen on signing Fanni, who has also been linked with Liverpool.

Fanni currently turns out for Marseille in France’s Ligue 1, but the Guardian have linked him with making a move to the Premier League this summer, to link up with Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace side.

A few months ago, the 33-year-old centre-back was also in the Guardian, being linked with a move to Liverpool, with the experienced defender of the quality to improve many back-lines, even if only for a short-time due to his age.

The new report claims that the Reds’ interest is remaining in Fanni, but Palace have become the front-runners to sign the veteran defender, who has over 300 appearances in Ligue 1 - as well as five French caps to his name.

Able to play in the centre of defence, as well as cover in the right-back position, Fanni would add talent to the Eagles’ back-line, and would provide Pardew with a wealth of options in his defensive unit.

As his contact with Marseille expires this summer, Fanni would be available on a free transfer, and at his age he is likely to agree a cut-price wage packet to guarantee playing time.

Although Fanni is ageing, and is unlikely to be able to cut it out at Premier League level for more than a few years, he would be a great acquisition for Palace, and Pardew would be wise to approach the defender in the coming weeks to wrap up a deal for him.
