According to fresh reports in Spanish publication AS, Sevilla have tied up a deal for PSV Eindhoven winger Zakaria Bakkali.
The 19-year-old star rose to prominence as the youngest ever hat-trick scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie, netting three times as a 17-year-old in a 5-0 win over NEC Nijmegen.
Despite his recent fame, Bakkali's contract is up this summer and February reports in the Daily Record accredited Celtic with a strong interest and ensuing bid of £750,000.
His predicted switch to Glasgow, however, failed to materialise and it now appears that ship has well and truly sailed for the Bhoys as fresh reports claim Sevilla have an agreement to sign the Belgian hotshot.
“Sevilla have tied up PSV’s talented winger Zakaria Bakkali for the future of their new project. At 19-years-old, his contract is expiring and he has refused to renew with the Dutch club,” AS reports.
The recent Europa League winners are looking to bolster their squad ahead of next season as their victorious European adventure has earned them a spot in next season’s Champions League.
For Celtic and boss Ronny Delia, however, it’s potentially a big setback given the player’s evident ability but not one they can’t quickly get over as they look at other summer targets.
The Scottish giants have a busy couple of months coming up and a little extra quality will be needed if they are to secure a spot alongside Sevilla in next season’s elite European competition.
