Report: Arsenal and Manchester United given boost in race for Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain

The Argentine is hot property and the Premier League duo would face competition for his signature.

Arsenal and Manchester United may have been given a boost in the race to sign Gonzalo Higuain, with Tuttosport saying he is keen to leave Napoli.

Both clubs have been linked with the Argentine forward in recent weeks, with United in particular thought to be keen to bolster their forward line after the struggles of their strikers last season.

And now they may have received some encouragement for a potential move for the forward, with Italian news outlet Tuttosport claiming the player is keen for a change of scenery after current club Napoli failed to reach the Champions League last season.

They would, however, reportedly face competition for his signature from a number of Europe’s top sides, with Champions League finalists Juventus thought to be particularly interested, while PSG and Atletico Madrid are also named as potential suitors by the report.

Convincing Napoli President Aurelio de Laurentiis could also prove another stumbling block. It is believed that he needs convincing that a sale is in the club’s interests.

If a sale was sanctioned, however, it is claimed Higuain would cost at least £40 million, which may put off the likes of Arsenal.
