The Colombia international has become one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers following his wonderful form at Porto, scoring 92 goals in 133 matches in all competitions.
As per a recent report in Portuguese publication A Bola, among his suitors are Premier League outfit Arsenal who the report claims are keen to move ahead of the pack for his signature.
The Gunners arguably need further competition for lone striker Olivier Giroud, as in the Frenchman’s absence last season it became apparent a like-for-like replacement wasn’t available.
However, if Arsene Wenger’s side wish to conclude a deal for the highly-rated former Chiapas striker, they will have to move quickly, as fresh reports claim Milan have begun the necessary negotiations.
“After traveling to Madrid and Berlin, Milan's executive director is now in Portugal to meet with Porto to discuss Jackson Martinez. The Colombian striker has been a target for the Rossoneri in the past, and now with Doyen Sport's help he could close the deal, Martinez has a €35 million exit clause,” the report states.
The Italian giants endured a tough campaign last season, finishing a disappointing 17 points short of the Champions League places and a whopping 35 points behind Serie A champions Juventus.
Their squad needs a good boosting in quality in a number of key areas, and with a cash injection the potential is there for Milan to start a new successful phase in the club’s history.
