The former Manchester City and Newcastle United midfielder simply does not rate the Brazil international star.
The following tweets which Barton posted during Real Madrid’s 3-1 victory over Barcelona in October 2014 sum up his opinion of the 23-year-old.
Can the Neymar fan club inform me if he's still playing... #ridiculouslyoverrated— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) October 25, 2014
Neymar's fan club at me again he must have scored or finally stepped out of Messi's shadow for a second!— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) October 25, 2014
He's Messi's fluffer. Lionel is and will always be the daddy. #endof— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) October 25, 2014
Neymar, though, was superb in the recently concluded 2014-15 season and was a key player for Barcelona in their treble triumph.
The former Santos star played a crucial role in the Catalan giants’ 3-1 victory over Italian champions Juventus 3-1 in the final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Saturday evening.
Croatia international midfielder Ivan Rakitic put the Blaugrana in the lead in the fourth minute, but former Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata restored parity for Juve 10 minutes into the second half.
However, Barcelona stepped up their game and went 2-1 up through former Liverpool forward Luis Suarez in the 68th minute.
Then in the final minutes of the encounter, Neymar scored Barcelona’s third goal to wrap up a 3-1 victory.
After the game, departing Manchester City defender Micah Richards sent the following message to Barton on Twitter.
