West Ham United co-owner David Gold has revealed talks on a new manager are 'progressing well' and says an appointment is imminent.

The Hammers have been mulling over candidates to become the club's 15th full-time manager after the departure of Sam Allardyce at the end of the season.

Big Sam's contract expired at the end of the Premier League season which came as no real surprise given the volume of speculation over his future which had begun months before his exit.

A host of top managers from across Europe have been linked with the Upton Park hot seat, with much debate in both the media and amongst fans over who would be co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold's best bet.

Speculation has been rife that former Hammers defender and Croatia manager Slaven Bilic is set to be named as Allardyce's replacement.

And this evening Gold has taken to social networking site Twitter to reveal they are one step closer to making an official announcement.

He said: "Talks on our new manager are progressing well and we are close to an appointment."

It comes just a couple of days after Gold gave the clearest indication yet that the club were set to name Bilic, the only candidate in the running with "West Ham connections" as the man to lead them in their final season at the Boleyn Ground.

In an interview on West Ham's official website he said: "Every day goes by it is a case of elimination. It would be lovely to have someone with West Ham history, that ticks a box.

"We don't want to take a chance, West Ham are not going to take that risk.

"We have to get somebody in as quickly as possible but by the same token we're not going to bring in a second best."

Further fanning the flames that Bilic is the man for Gold and fellow co-owner David Sullivan, well known football agent Muzzi Ozcan has also taken to Twitter this evening claiming to be a friend of the former Besiktas boss and reporting his return to East London has been all but confirmed.

He said in a post that was retweeted by former West Ham favourite Trevor Sinclair: "West Ham has agreed terms with Slaven Bilić wish my good friend a great season at West Ham! And welcome to the East End!"
