David de Gea's agent reportedly holding talks with Real Madrid today

Could the Manchester United stopper be edging closer to an Old Trafford exit?

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will hold talks with the agent of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea today.

The Spaniard has been widely tipped to leave Old Trafford this summer, with just a year left on his current contract and Real said to be avid admirers. And now the latest report claims De Gea’s representative Jorge Mendes will sit down with the Madrid supremo in the coming hours.

The report goes on to claim that Real may even conclude the deal before Thursday’s international match between Spain and Costa Rica.

De Gea has been in outstanding form for United this season and has played an integral role in their return to the top four in England and next season’s Champions League. But such form was always likely to attract interest from elsewhere and with the player’s contract perilously close to its end the Spaniard holds all the cards.

It is being suggested that Real are willing to pay United between €35 and €40million for the ‘keeper, but it remains to be seen if Louis van Gaal’s side will sanction a move this summer, even if that means potentially losing De Gea for free in a year’s time.
