The Reading defender rejected interest from Leeds United to sign with Derby.
The 26-year-old said: “The ambition of the club was a huge pull for me. I spoke to certain people within the club and it was clear to see that there is a clear vision here at Derby to not only get into the Premier League, but stay there and that is something that you want to be part of as a player.
“I want to now play a key part in this club moving forward of this club getting out of the Championship and into the Premier League.”
Pearce, a talented central defender who has already played in the Premier League with Reading, moves to the iPro on a three-year contract following the ending of his contract with the Royals.
He is a player that is far too good to be playing in the Championship, and Derby have completed a great deal to secure his signature, especially on a free transfer.
Championship rivals Leeds were also linked with a move for Pearce, as per the Sun, and the defender’s comments are something of a insult towards the Whites.
He has admitted he chose the transfer to Derby to help the club win promotion to the Premier League, and then establish themselves in the first division, which is also the aim of Leeds.
The Whites finally look to be finding some stability under Massimo Cellino, but it looks as if Pearce has chosen the transfer to the Midlands as he believes Derby have a greater chance of getting into the top flight before the Yorkshire-based club.
