Alex Song interest
The British newspaper claim that the Saints have “emerged as favourites” to sign the former Arsenal midfielder.
The Premier League outfit will have to pay as much as £8 million for the services of Song, whose current contract with Spanish and European champions Barcelona runs out in June 2017, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.
The Sunday People claim that Southampton manager Ronald Koeman - a former Barcelona player - wants to sign the 27-year-old former Cameroon international midfielder as a replacement for Morgan Schneiderlin, whose future is reportedly in doubt.
Southampton, though, reportedly believe that the £8m transfer fee is too high, and it will be interesting to see how this situation develops over the coming weeks.
Song played on loan for Premier League club West Ham United in the recently concluded 2014-15 season, creating 28 chances in as many league matches.
According to the British newspaper, the Italy international is available for around £5m, and Koeman is keen on recruiting him to play alongside Graziano Pelle in attack next season.
