Newcastle United will sign as many as seven players in the summer transfer window, according to The Independent.
It has been reported by the British tabloid that Steve McClaren will be appointed the new head coach of Newcastle in the coming days.
The former Derby County and Nottingham Forest boss will replace John Carver, who took charge of the Magpies' first team in the middle of the recently concluded 2014-15 season following Alan Pardew’s move to Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.
“McClaren will be involved in recruitment as his new club attempts to move forward from a disappointing campaign, in which they only secured their Premier League status on the final day of the season,” states the report.
“It is expected they will sign as many as seven players this summer and have a clearout, with Papiss Cisse, Cheick Tiote and Fabricio Coloccini all possible departures.”
According to The Daily Star, one of the players McClaren will sign is Micah Richards, who is on the books of Manchester City at the moment.
However, Richards’ current contract with the former Premier League champions runs out at the end of the month, and he is set to leave the Etihad Stadium.
The Daily Star also claim that Carver is “expected to be offered a coaching position under McClaren”.
Newcastle narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League and will need to invest in players in the summer to avoid a similar situation next season.
