Report: Liverpool ‘desperate’ for Tottenham Hotspur’s Nabil Bentaleb

Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool are reportedly interested in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb.

Liverpool are interested in signing Nabil Bentaleb from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to The Sun.

The British tabloid claim that the Merseyside outfit want the Algeria international to partner James Milner in midfield next season.

The 20-year-old Bentaleb told The Telegraph last week that he is frustrated that negotiations over a new contract have been dragging on for months.

The youngster added that he is “flattered” to know that he has had “some interest from big clubs, from Champions League clubs”.

The Sun had earlier reported that Manchester United, Manchester City, Lazio, Napoli and Juventus are all admirers of Bentaleb, and they now claim that Liverpool are keen on securing his services in the summer transfer window.

Spurs do not want to lose (Hugo) Lloris — or midfielder Bentaleb,” states the report in The Sun. “But Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is desperate to strike a deal for the Algerian, 20.

“Anfield insiders insist the Kop chief can splash the cash despite past criticism of his signings. Bentaleb has been critical of Spurs for taking so long sorting out his new contract. And Liverpool want him to form a new-look midfield alongside new signing James Milner.”

Bentaleb enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2014-15 and was one of the best young players in the Premier League.

While Liverpool’s reported interest in the Algerian should not come as a surprise, it is interesting that Rodgers (allegedly) wants to pair him with Milner in midfield.

England international midfielder Jordan Henderson has been one of the most influential players for Liverpool over the past two years, and perhaps Bentaleb’s arrival will mean that he will be deployed in a more attacking role.
