According to a report in the Daily Mail, David Moyes’ Real Sociedad have launched a £6 million bid for out-of-favour Arsenal striker Joel Campbell.
The Costa Rica international became a victim of the Gunners’ vast attacking strength last season, spending the second half of the campaign out on loan.
His time in La Liga with Villarreal wasn’t particularly successful, but his potential to become a top player is there for all to see, and reports state that Real Sociedad want to take him in a permanent deal.
“David Moyes has launched a bid to sign Arsenal striker Joel Campbell. Moyes is proposing a £6 million bid to take the 22-year-old Campbell on a permanent deal,” the Daily Mail reports.
Campbell only featured four times for the Gunners at the start of the Premier League campaign last season before joining Villarreal in a January deal which saw Gabriel Paulista head the other way.
He featured more frequently with the Yellow Submarines, but more often than not he found himself limited to a role on the right wing rather than his preferred position up front.
Former Manchester United boss Moyes is looking to strengthen his attacking options at Real Sociedad, and partnering Campbell alongside Carlos Vela is an exciting proposition.
Despite only finding the net once over the past 11 months, the former Saprissa man showed during last summer’s World Cup in Brazil what he can do when being played down the middle.
