Liverpool fans react on Twitter to new signing James Milner's England performance

James Milner

James Milner featured for England in their 0-0 draw against Ireland.

England played out a dour 0-0 draw with the Republic of Ireland in Dublin earlier today, in a game which certainly had an 'end-of-season' feel to it.

Roy Hodgson's Three Lions could only muster three shots on target in a dismal display, struggling to break Ireland down as players seemingly had their minds on their summer holidays rather than this international friendly.

The game wasn't without intrigue though, as Liverpool fans were eager to see new signing James Milner in action following his midweek move from Manchester City.

The 29-year-old agreed to join the Reds on a free transfer with his Manchester City contract expiring, as reported by the Liverpool official website.

The game was of particular interest for Liverpool fans as Milner was placed in midfield alongside Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana - two of his new team-mates at Anfield.

In such a disappointing team performance from England, it was hard to garner too much from Milner's display, with Liverpool fans on Twitter largely split over whether Milner had an impressive game or flattered to deceive as England laboured to a stalemate.

Here are some of the reactions from Liverpool fans on Twitter after Milner's performance for England, with many noting his partnership with Reds ace Henderson in midfield...
