Popular pundit Jamie Redknapp has chosen a staggering six Barcelona players to represent his Champions League Team of the Season, Sky Sports report.
The Catalans take on Serie A champions Juventus in the German capital on Sunday with both teams looking to add the European crown to their respective domestic double.
A number of players have shone in Europe’s elite competition this season, but Redknapp feels Luis Enrique’s side have been so devastating they deserve all the recognition they can get.
With Juventus’ shot-stopper Gigi Buffon crowned Redknapp’s number one custodian, the former Liverpool man has opted for Barca stars Jordi Alba and Dani Alves in the fullback positions.
Both players have experienced wonderful campaigns at the Nou Camp, though questions remain over the future of Dani Alves and whether Saturday’s clash will be the Brazilian’s last in Barca colours.
In midfield, Rednapp has partnered Juve’s industrial midfielder Arturo Vidal with Spanish internationals Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta – the latter set to make his 42nd appearance of the campaign.
Cristiano Ronaldo is Real Madrid’s only player to feature in Redknapp’s XI, and he’s joined by former Liverpool star Luis Suarez and the tournament’s outstanding player Lionel Messi.
The Argentine superstar has found the net ten times in this year’s competition, while his 16 chances created is a remarkable ten more than any other player.
“I was scared a couple of years ago that maybe we’d seen the best of Messi but he’s as good as ever now. The guy is from another planet,” Redknapp explained.
It’s all set up to be a fascinating battle in the German capital and one of contrasting styles, with the winner set to go down in history as one of the best ever sides hailing from their respective nations.
