According to a report in the Metro, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a potential summer deal for Bayern Munich’s unsettled attacking midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
The 19-year-old has been dubbed a 'wonderkid' in the British tabloid and is thought of highly by Bayern officials, but competition for places in Bavaria is making it tough for the Danish youngster to progress.
For the second half of last season, Hojbjerg moved to fellow Bundesliga outfit FC Augsburg, where he managed 10 starts and a further six appearances from the bench.
Keen for more first-team opportunities, Spurs have been credited with holding heavy interest and judging by his recent performances, it’s easy to understand why.
|Goals||Assists||Shots per Game||Key Passes per Game||Take-ons per Game||Accurate Passes per Game||Dispossessed per Game||Appearances|
As per the table above, Hojbjerg was in wonderful form for Augsburg and in only 10 starts he managed to eclipse Dembele’s Premier League averages in seven key attacking areas.
Aside from scoring and assisting more than Spurs’ Belgian international midfielder, the Bayern Munich youngster averaged more shots and key passes per top-flight encounter.
Moreover, Hojbjerg showed ability and composure on the ball, averaging 1.6 successful take-ons per encounter and rarely being robbed of possession.
Harry Kane aside, Tottenham’s fellow attacking players often struggled for inspiration in the final third last season and it’s one area boss Mauricio Pochettino will want to strengthen this summer.
With the club seemingly keen on going down the route of progressing young talent, potentially teaming White Hart Lane favourite Christian Eriksen up with his Danish compatriot could be a very wise decision.
