Tottenham fans speak out following Erik Lamela transfer rumours

Some of Tottenham Hotspur's fans have expressed their thoughts after one of their stars was linked with a summer exit.

Last week, the Mirror claimed that while Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino wanted to keep Erik Lamela at White Hart Lane next season, the club were allegedly willing to do business if they received an offer in the region of £30million.

That was the fee Tottenham paid for the Argentine back in 2013 and since then he has taken time to settle in North London and show the Spurs faithful what he is capable of.

Much of his first season in England was spent on the treatment table, with Lamela featuring just 17 times in all competitions and only nine times in the Premier League.

But those injury woes are now well and truly behind him, with the 23-year-old featuring 46 times for Tottenham, scoring five goals and setting up an additional 10 in that time.

It may have taken time, but Lamela is now beginning to show what Tottenham initially forked out so much cash on, and it is worth remembering that he is still very young and has had only this season to put in a consistent run of matches.

Following the claims Tottenham were willing to sell Lamela for the right price, HITC received a number of comments from Spurs fans making it clear what they thought of the Argentine one way or the other.

Below you can find a selection of comments on the Spurs star’s future:

Michael said: ‘I have said it before and I will say it again. Erik Lamela must stay at Spurs next season. Towards the end of the Premier League season, Lamela demonstrated that he was improving considerably. Yes, it has taken the Spurs winger time to adjust to the pace and physicality of the Premier League, but the point here is that he is adjusting. He has changed his approach to the game now, no longer trying to dribble past three or four players. He has become more creative. Little flicks and deft touches to create chances for teammates, must surely have been more noticeable since January. Looking at this another way, where Christian Eriksen has dipped in form again, Lamela seems to have stepped in to assist in that no.10 role.’

Gdaman said: ‘Absolutely agree with your comments Michael - in fact I think he plays the no. 10 role even better than Eriksen - creates more chances, much more creative and tricky and the through balls to both Chadli and Kane show his class. Then when he plays on the right he actually supports the fullback defensively unlike Eriksen, Chadli and Townsend. Keep this boy - I'm convinced Pochettino will develop him into a player everybody will want to sign in one or two seasons.’

Mr Greaves said: ‘Lamela is, without doubt, a very slow learner. We have had two seasons looking for evidence of his talent without really seeing it. BUT in the second-half of this season he did, at last, start to show he has the makings of a PL (not world-class) player as there were less fallings over, less running directly into players and less predictable moves to the left. I don't see anyone wanting to give us £30m for him and don't see why ENIC would sell him for less, as he might now be on the verge of being truly useful to us. He needs to stay another season and also be played more central, as he can "see" a pass whereas Eriksen seems limited in that, but excels in other areas.’

Marcus Higgins said: ‘I've been backing the kid all season against his critics who don't seem able to show any patience and have got on his back unfairly when other players have been inferior yet escape criticism. His recent displays have been excellent and his assist stats outstanding.’

Tony Borg said: ‘For once I'm with Levy on this one, if they can get anywhere near that sort of money I'd bite their hands off. SELL SELL SELL.’

COYS said: ‘Lamela needs another season at least, he's still young and technically this is his first full season, he was injured for most of his first season at the club. We were on the brink of selling Chadli, and look at how he improved this season with goals; hopefully if Lamela can bulk up a bit and become stronger he could be a good asset to the side. Poch wants to keep him so he must see something there, regular game time and Lamela could be better for next season. And besides he said he doesn't want to leave, so obviously he has a point to prove, with him Eriksen, Chadli and Kane all scoring next season we could have a promising attack, just need to strengthen at the back.’
