Sunderland and Newcastle United target Patrick Bamford could be available in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Mail.
The England Under-21 international forward has returned to his parent club Chelsea following a successful loan spell at Championship club Middlesbrough in the 2014-15 campaign.
Bamford was one of the best players in the Championship last season and helped Middlesbrough reach the playoff final.
The 21-year-old scored 16 goals and created 28 chances in 40 league appearances, and had a pass accuracy of 70% and a shot accuracy of 51%.
According to The Daily Mail, both Sunderland and Newcastle are interested in signing the youngster, but it has been reported that the forward will be available only on loan.
“The Magpies have had Bamford watched on several occasions, while the Black Cats are also thought to be admirers,” states the report. “Chelsea would only sanction a loan move, but a battle for his signature could well ensue.”
Both Sunderland and Newcastle struggled for goals in the 2014-15 campaign, and it makes sense for them to go out for a proven goalscorer.
During his time at the Riverside Stadium, former Nottingham Forest youngster Bamford showed his quality and proved that he can play under pressure.
