According to SAPO - citing reports from the newspaper edition of A Bola - Southampton are closing in on a deal to sign Benfica defender Andre Almeida.
The Saints are gearing up for their maiden Europa League campaign, and manager Ronald Koeman will be keen to bring in new signings to strengthen his squad.
England international right back Nathaniel Clyne will be in demand after an impressive season, and it seems that Koeman is already preparing for the possibility of Clyne leaving by targeting a new right back.
A Bola suggest that Southampton are in talks with Benfica over a deal to sign Portuguese international Andre Almeida, with a deal expected in the coming days.
Almeida, 24, has played 31 games in all competitions for Benfica this season whilst he also played for Portugal at last summer's World Cup.
The report suggests that Southampton are ready to pay €10m (£7.25m) in order to land Almeida this summer, and having opened negotiations with Benfica this weekend, an agreement is expected shortly.
Almeida could be Southampton's first signing of the summer as Koeman prepares for a big season at St. Mary's Stadium, though his potential arrival may well mean that Southampton are on the verge of losing star right back Clyne to a Premier League rival.
