Report: Liverpool linked Andreas Christensen set for Bundesliga move

The young Chelsea defender could be playing Champions League football next season.

Young Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen was linked with Liverpool recently by the Sun, but it appears Jose Mourinho would prefer the centre back to go out on loan to another country, rather than lose his services completely.

The Mail are reporting that the Dane is set to move to Germany, meaning the likely end of the Reds interest, despite links last month. Brendan Rodgers was said to be keen on bringing Christensen in to boost a defence that has struggled at times during this past season.

The 19-year-old defender is highly thought of at Stamford Bridge, having arrived from Brondby in 2012, even though he has made just three appearances in his time there. The Denmark Under-21 international was involved during Chelsea's tour of Australia recently.

Mourinho even paid credit to the defender in the League Cup celebrations, recognising his performance in a earlier round of the competition.

“Man of the match is (Andreas) Christensen," he said at Wembley after the final whistle, as quoted by Sky Sports. "He played so well against Shrewsbury. All these guys are man of the match for me and maybe more than John (Terry) and the lucky ones to play this final."

Borussia Monchengladbach this season had Thorgan Hazard on loan, before agreeing to sign him permanently from the Blues in February.

The Londoners will hope Christensen will get the regular football he would struggle to come across at Stamford Bridge while in Germany. With The Foals having qualified for the Champions League after an impressive third placed finish, he would have a chance of football at the very highest level too.
