Report: Arsenal battling Serie A giants Inter for Felipe Melo

Galatasaray's Brazilian midfielder could be set to leave the Istanbul club this summer, with a Premier League switch mooted.

Talksport have reported that Arsenal and Inter Milan are battling over the signature of ex-Brazil international Felipe Melo.

The 31-year-old has spent the last four seasons at Turkish giants Galatasaray, winning the title in all but one campaign.

He played 34 times last season as Cim-Bom wrapped up their latest championship, including both defeats to Arsenal in the Champions League, and has been linked with a move to join Arsene Wenger in the past.

Talksport state it would take around £4 million to sign the player, who can also play in defence.

The Gunners have benefitted from Brazilian anchormen before in the past, with Gilberto Silva being an inspired player for Arsenal during his six years at the club.

Although Melo is certainly no spring chicken, he is a no-nonsense midfielder who can also get on the scoresheet, and after featuring in Serie A for several seasons, with both Fiorentina and Juventus, would bring a lot of experience to Arsenal's midfield.

Unsurprisingly, Inter are also interested in bringing Melo back to Italy, and it will be curious to see where the player's future lies.
