The Liverpool player has reserved special praise for an unsung Barcelona hero.
In comments published by FourFourTwo, the Reds’ vice-captain suggested the Croatian international has played a crucial role in the Spanish side’s success this season, with the La Liga title holders preparing for this weekend’s Champions League final against Juventus.
“He (Rakitic) doesn’t get the praise given to Neymar, (Lionel) Messi or (Luis) Suarez but he’s so influential and does all the dirty work. He has qualities I can learn off.”
Barcelona signed Rakitic from Sevilla last summer and the 27-year-old has proved to be a wonderful signing, making 50 appearances in all competitions and scoring seven goals and providing 10 assists to date.
Rakitic is the type of player every club would want, and the kind of player Henderson will hope to ultimately become at Liverpool.
With Steven Gerrard leaving Anfield this summer it is up to Henderson to step up and fill the hole left by the legendary Reds skipper, and anything he can learn from the Barcelona ace will no doubt be of benefit.
But in the end he moved to Barcelona and he has not looked back, leaving Henderson and the rest of English football’s contingent to admire his ability from afar.
