Former Queens Park Rangers and Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Jay Bothroyd does not seem to rate Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson, according to his posts on social networking site Twitter.

Henderson has been on the books of Liverpool since 2011 and has established himself as one of the best players in the team.

The England international is one of the first names on the Reds teamsheet and is hugely influential in midfield.

Following the departure of Steven Gerrard from Anfield this summer, there is a likelihood that Henderson could be made the Liverpool captain.

However, Bothroyd believes that the former Sunderland midfielder is not captain material, and has backed Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers to make James Milner his skipper next season.

Given Henderson’s influence in the Liverpool team over the past two seasons, there is a justification to him becoming the new captain.

However, Bothroyd does have a point when he suggests that Henderson may not play if Liverpool invest heavily.

The Englishman is not a world-class midfielder and will never be. Henderson is an ‘improved player’ rather than someone who was top quality right from the start.

The former Sunderland player will not get into the starting line-up of any of the top-four teams in the Premier League, but he is still an important figure at Liverpool.
