Unai Emery has been ruled out of the running for the vacant West Ham job after signing a new contract with Sevilla.

The Mirror reported Emery's agreement to stay put last night, despite flying in for talks with the Hammers earlier in the week.

Emery became one of the most talked about bosses in Europe after leading Sevilla to a second successive Europa League trophy last month, linked by ESPN subsequently with the Real Madrid post.

The Spaniard was seemingly clear to explore his options, but staying in Seville gives him the opportunity to continue building his side rather than starting from scratch in England.

Emery gets the chance next season to lead Sevilla in the Champions League as a result of a rule change benefiting this season's Europa winners, and that is an opportunity the Hammers could not offer.

It's unclear how close West Ham really came to luring him aboard, and there remains a possibility he was simply using them as leverage to land the terms he wanted to stay on in Spain.

West Ham's manager hunt continues, and the club are making a tough job of replacing Sam Allardyce, not helped by their own lofty ambitions, namely trying to lure the likes of Emery to the club.

Slaven Bilic is the current favourite for the position, as also reported by The Mirror, and right now the available former Besiktas boss would seem like a sensible option, as patience among fans is beginning to run out, with the transfer window soon to open and their Europa League qualifying campaign just a month away.

Here is a look at how fans reacted to Emery's decision to stay at Sevilla...
