The Tottenham Hotspur striker has his supporters. But also his critics...
The 'agent' who reportedly orchestrated talks is someone Adebayor has never heard of, he says, and he is 'very happy' to be at Tottenham. The 31-year-old also says he is looking forward to next season.
In response to the news, several Spurs supporters backed Adebayor and urged him to prove the doubters wrong.
They were in the minority.
Indeed, the lion's share of reaction on social media to the Togolese forward's post was not positive. Many Tottenham fans want Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy to sell the high-earning striker and don't truly believe he has any chance of breaking back into the Spurs side with Harry Kane in the form of his life.
Who can blame them? Adebayor's form was frustratingly bad last term, although he was troubled by personal and family issues. Once he's put them aside, can the 31-year-old get back into the first-team picture at Tottenham?
Here's a selection of what supporters made of his comments on Twitter...
Will Adebayor be able to find form when he'll be benched by Kane at the start of the season? Big ask, IMO. #THFC— Raphael Harris (@rapharris_) June 5, 2015
@E_Adebayor it's a shame we don't want you then, waste of space— Steve Pilborough (@stevepilborough) June 5, 2015
