Supporters of the Football League side are hopeful after the former Leeds midfielder signed for the Irons.

Scunthorpe United fans are hoping they have unveiled the next best thing after signing former Leeds United midfielder Isaac Assenso. The 18-year-old, who can also play at centre-back, was released by the Elland Road outfit this summer and has now been taken on by the League One side after a successful trial with the Irons.

Assenso was hugely admired by former Leeds boss Neil Redfearn but, like the coach himself, was directed away from the Yorkshire side after last season.

Can the youngster thrive away from Leeds? One Scunthorpe fan on Twitter suggested who could be like a 'League One Pogba' for the Irons, while there was excitement in general on social media to welcome the teenager to Glanford Park.

It was no doubt difficult for Assenso to make an impression for the Whites, with so many young talents making a name for themselves within the Leeds academy - as well as the United first team.

Now, though, he will be given the chance to prove himself at Scunthorpe. Can he do a Paul Pogba and prove Leeds wrong for releasing him? Here's a selection of the best Scunthorpe fan reaction to the deal on Twitter:
