The Potters are trying to secure their targets early ahead of the new season.
The 23-year-old Portugal international has flown in for talks with the club, with Mark Hughes keen to add him to the squad to provide competition in the right-back position.
According to the report, the defender was impressed by what Stoke presented to him, although a deal remains far from being concluded. It would be somewhat of a coup should they sign him, though, with Arsenal reportedly having had him scouted in recent months.
One potential stumbling block could be his current affiliation to Sporting, with him having a long association with the club having joined the club as an eight-year-old.
Elsewhere, the Potters are also pressing ahead with their efforts to sign Yevhen Konoplyanka after his contract with Ukrainian side Dnipro came to an end.
The talented winger is rumoured to be on the radar of several Premier League and European clubs, but Stoke remain keen on a deal for the winger. However, the deal is being held up by a number of factors, with them facing another delay as he heads off on international duty with the Ukraine.
