Report: Manchester United set to reward Ashley Young with a new contract

The England international rediscovered his form under Louis van Gaal and will reportedly be offered a new three-year deal.

Ashley Young earned his big-money move to Manchester United back in 2011 after five impressive seasons at Aston Villa. Back then Young was a flying winger, all action and with a real eye for goal.

Apart from a decent first season at United, Young has failed to recapture the form of his earlier years and was expected to be one of the first causalities of van Gaal’s reign.

His turnaround last season was impressive to say the least. He seemed to have his confidence back, the directness and threat had returned and his versatility made him a vital component of van Gaal’s team.

Roy Hodgson was suitably impressed and Young is once again in the England frame. He likely would have featured in the latest squad had he not been ruled out through injury.

It appears Young is set to be rewarded for his performances with a new three-year deal, as per reports in the Mirror, which surely puts an end to any speculation regarding his future.

The summer transfer window will undoubtedly see new arrivals at Old Trafford but Young has done enough to ensure he remains an important figure in the United squad next season.
